IC5146 Cocoon Nebula

IC5146 Cocoon Nebula with 8 hours of exposure time, enveloped in cosmic dust.

IC 5146, also known as the Cocoon Nebula, is an astronomical nebula with an embedded open star cluster in the constellation Cygnus. The star cluster is designated Collinder 470.
The nebula has an apparent size of about 10 arcminutes and is approximately 2,500 light-years from Earth; its physical size is therefore about 10 light-years.
The nebula is a star-forming region with ionized atomic hydrogen and contains emitting, reflecting, and absorbing components.
From Earth's perspective, IC 5146 is located at the eastern end of the elongated dark cloud Barnard 168 and, together with it, is part of an extensive molecular cloud. Slightly to the west lies the reflection nebula vdB 147, which likely also belongs to the complex.
The active star formation occurring inside the cloud leads to the formation of a young open star cluster called...
