The new Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy monument in Leipzig

Directly in front of the main entrance of the Thomaskirche stands a majestic monument to Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. At first glance, nothing unusual, one might think. A large monument to an important musician closely connected to the city. Quite normal, then. Only on closer inspection does the eventful history of the monument become clear, leading deep into the darkest and brighter stories of Leipzig's music and city history.
