Former sewage treatment plant and flood pumping station - built from 1908-1910.
The former sewage treatment plant is a listed industrial building in NRW.
The building, constructed between 1908 and 1910, is considered an architecturally significant example of Art Nouveau in industrial culture. It is surrounded by trees and located near the harbor and the railway and federal road routes.
The construction costs at the time amounted to approximately 1.3 million euros (converted).
Until 1962, the plant was used in its original state for wastewater treatment; until 1996, it was operated only as a pumping station after the installation of screw pumps. In 1996, it was replaced by a new pumping station located directly next to it.
Afterwards, it fell into a 22-year slumber, attracting photographers internationally due to its architecture. At the end of 2018, four friends bought the entire facility and are now lovingly restoring it themselves. They want to preserve the history and for that...Former sewage treatment plant and flood pumping station - built from 1908-1910.
