The desire for reconstruction was voiced among hiking enthusiasts. This required the approval of Prince Alfred of Stolberg-Stolberg and the general assembly of the Harz Club, founded in 1886. In the autumn of 1895, the new project was approved. It cost a proud 50,000 marks, half of which was covered by the princely chamber and the Harz Club. Based on Schinkel's designs, a solid iron structure was now created. In its construction, it corresponds to the Parisian Eiffel Tower. Held together by 100,000 rivets, the new Joseph Cross, with a total weight of 2,460 hundredweights (250 kg per square meter), now withstands the weather. Since 1896, it has connected the Harz and Kyffhäuser as a worthy counterpart to the Kyffhäuser Monument.
