Starting from the peace prayers in the Nikolaikirche, the protest took over public spaces in 1989. A column crowned with palm fronds from the church nave has been recreated in the square. The project by Leipzig artist Andreas Stötzner symbolically carries the spirit of the uprising out of the church.
