The villa at Bernsteinsee, also called the Biermann Villa, is a grand bourgeois residential house built in 1896 near Bitterfeld at Bernsteinsee.
The house was built for the Jeßnitz manufacturer Biermann. During World War II, the building was used for residential purposes by the family of the director of the paper factory located next to the villa, Heinz Holtzhausen.
Despite the brown coal mining in the immediate vicinity, the building was not structurally altered. As part of the renaturation of the open-cast mine residual holes, the original riverbed was reflooded and a lake landscape was created. The villa stands directly on the shore.
