I succeeded in photographing the hatching of the swallowtail from the very beginning. When the egg got the first fine hole
On the homepage you can follow the entire hatching with about 35 pictures.
When it then came out, it greedily attacked the eggshell to gain as much strength as possible. I hoped that it would then pause briefly to rest ...... but that was only the case once. In the short time I was able to make three stacks, of which only one was somewhat usable…..
Although I saw during stacking that it held still, it was not so. It always had small "contractions in the body" ... twitches and that did not make it easier for me.
The stack is at a reproduction ratio of 6:1 which means that the image crop width is just 6 mm.
Even the smallest external influence such as vibrations from the hand-operated macro rail, or walking on the ground, the vibrations through the tripod, breathing out had an influence and you could see it on the picture/screen of the camera.. but now "it also trembled".
The image development was not easy
At some point "Lupi and I" just reach the limit, because the caterpillar is only about 2mm long and the thorn projections move in the hundredth millimeter range
But now I may show you a swallowtail caterpillar barely 5 minutes old eating the eggshell…

Auf der Homepage kann man den ganzen Schlupf mit ca. 35 Bilder verfolgen.
Als sie dann herauskam, machte sie sich gierig über die Eihülle her um so viel Kraft wie möglich zu gewinnen. Ich hoffte das sie dann mal kurz innehalten würde, um zu ruhen ......doch das war nur einmal der fall. In der kurzen Zeit konnte ich drei Stacks machen, von denen nur einer einigermassen zu gebrauchen war…..
Den wenn ich auch beim Stacken sah das sie ruhig hielt, so war das nicht so. Sie hatte immer kleine «Kontraktionen im Körper» …Zuckungen und das machte mir das Ganze nicht einfacher.
Der Stack ist ja im ABM 6:1 das heisst das der Bildschnitt die Bildbreite gerade mal 6 mm beträgt.
Schon die kleinste äussre Einwirkung wie Vibrationen vom Handbetrieben Makroschlitten, oder das Gehen auf dem Boden, die Schwingungen über das Stativ, das ausatmen hatten Einfluss und man sah es auf dem Bild/Bildschirm der Kamera..doch nun «zitterte auch sie noch».
Die Bildentwicklung war nicht einfach
Irgendwann kommen «Lupi und ich» halt schon an Anschlag, den die Raupe ist ja gerade mal 2mm lang und die Dornvorsätze bewegen sich im 100tel Millimeter Bereich
Doch nun darf ich Euch eine kaum 5 Minuten alte Schwalbenschwanzraupe zeigen beim fressen der Eihülle…
