Starting from the Marshfield Base Station, located 10 km east of Route 302 near Bretton Woods at an elevation of 823 m (2700 feet), the railway climbs nearly five kilometers and about 1200 meters up the west flank of the highest mountain in Northeast America in around 90 minutes between May and October. Each trip consumes approximately one ton of coal and 3800 liters of water.
