The comet C/2020 F3 was discovered on March 27, 2020, as part of the NEOWISE project (Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) using the reactivated WISE space telescope in the southern sky.
Based on 1,313 observations over a period of 438 days, a highly elongated elliptical orbit was determined for the comet, inclined about 129° to the ecliptic. Die Bahn des Kometen verläuft damit stark angestellt gegen die Bahnebenen der Planeten, und er durchläuft seine Bahn relativ zu diesen im gegenläufigen Sinn.
