Portfolio and Contacts

To draw more attention to your photos, we’ve expanded the portfolio on your profile page. Your portfolio now takes up half of the profile page, allowing for larger preview images and three new categories. Each category includes a button linking to more photos from that section. Categories will only appear once you have a certain number of photos, to avoid showing the same photos in multiple categories at the same time. Here are the categories now featured in your portfolio:

New Photos

This section appears as soon as you upload your first photo. It displays up to 8 of your newest photos. Just like before, but bigger, nicer, double the amount, and with a link to “more.”

Random Photos

This section appears once you have at least 25 photos. It shows a random selection of your photos, giving older images a chance to be seen again. Like before, but bigger, nicer, double the amount, with a “more” link, and only starting at 25 photos.

Popular Photos

This section appears once you have 50 photos. It displays your top 8 photos with the most ratings — essentially your personal leaderboard from the perspective of other members.

Request Feedback

This section appears once you have 75 photos. It shows 8 of your photos that you’ve marked with the “Constructive Criticism Wanted” option and that have received the fewest comments so far.

My Selection

This section appears once you have 100 photos. It displays 8 photos you’ve pinned yourself that also have the highest overall ratings. This is your personal top list, shown in order of ratings from other members. So you decide what’s featured here, but others determine the order.

Additionally, the sections Contacts, Followers, and Connections (now called Mutual Contacts) have been simplified and combined into a single section.

Volume Now Adjustable

Until now, Photoclub played notification sounds for new reactions, comments, friend requests, and messages at a fixed volume. From now on, you can decide whether these alerts should be clearly audible, subtle, or completely silent. You'll find a new slider under labeled Notification Sound Volume. It can be adjusted smoothly from 0 to 100 percent. At 0 percent, the sounds are completely muted, but you'll still receive the notifications themselves. Listen to the selected volume immediately When you release the slider, the notification sound will play once at the chosen volume. This way, you can instantly hear if the setting works for you and adjust it further if needed. This volume setting applies to all sounds on the site. There is no separate volume control for different types of notifications. Please note that this volume control only works within the limits of your device’s overall volume settings. So if your computer is set to a low volume, you won…

Photoclub in Italian

Italian is now the fifth language in Photoclub You can now explore and use Photoclub in Italian. This makes the international photography community more accessible to Italian-speaking photography enthusiasts. At the same time, existing members gain new opportunities to share their images and stories beyond their own language boundaries. Language plays a crucial role in exchanging ideas about photography. An image can move you instantly, but descriptions, comments, and conversations provide insight into the concept, creation, and personal perspective of the photographer. If a common language has to be found first, this exchange often remains superficial. Write in your language, be understood across language barriers In Photoclub, you can write your image descriptions, comments, and profile texts in your preferred language, such as German or Italian. Other members can automatically read these contents in their own language. So, you don’t have to translate your texts yourself or w…

Just Keep Scrolling

If you wanted to explore older content in the timeline, you used to eventually reach a load more button. Only after clicking it would you continue. That extra step is now gone. As soon as you reach the end of a timeline section while browsing, just keep scrolling. The timeline will automatically continue without you having to click a button in between. Less interruption while browsing This change might seem minor on the surface, but it’s a complex internal upgrade. It’s designed to make navigating longer timeline stretches more enjoyable and help your photos get even more reactions, even if they’re further back. Instead of switching between scrolling and loading more, you stay in one smooth flow and can keep browsing without any pause for clicks. It’s a step closer to the feel of a real app. Just open the timeline on the homepage or your profile and try the endless scrolling for yourself.

Reactions & Ratings

When One Thumbs-Up Just Isn't Enough Some content you like, others surprise you, make you laugh, or touch you with a sad theme. Until now, a single "Like" could only roughly express all of that. That’s why Photoclub now offers six reactions: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Excited, and Sad. The controls remain simple. A quick click on the thumb still registers a "Like." If you want to choose a different reaction, just hover briefly over the thumb. On mobile, press and hold to open the selection. You can give one reaction per post and change it anytime. All six reactions are available to every member, even without Premium. They carry equal weight—none is more valuable than another. Importantly, "Sad" is not a rejection or dislike. It simply reflects what a piece of content evokes in you. A moving photo can be sad and still be artistically powerful. Reactions and Ratings Serve Different Purposes The key change isn’t just the new icons but a clearer distinction: A reaction shows how a pho…

Invitation to the Photoclub

Your photos deserve more than just a fleeting glance You waited for the perfect moment, carefully chose your perspective, or went out again to catch a specific light. Then you share the result on a social network, maybe get a few quick reactions, and shortly after, the photo disappears among messages, ads, and new posts. Social networks offer reach, variety, and an easy way to share images. But if you want more lasting visibility, deeper attention, meaningful feedback, and personal conversations for your photography, Photoclub might be the right place for you. A calmer space for photography Photoclub positions itself as an alternative to the fast-paced, algorithm-driven way images are handled. The focus is on people who engage thoughtfully with photography, want to discover images, and exchange ideas. Your photos here don’t constantly compete with videos, ads, news, and random content for just a few seconds of attention. Instead, you gradually build your own gallery. Your phot…

AI Toggle

Show or Hide AI Images with One Click From now on, you can directly control in the navigation bar whether AI images are displayed. The new toggle is accessible on every page, so you don’t have to leave your current view or dig through settings. At the same time, you can instantly see whether AI images are currently shown or hidden. Direct Access Instead of a Detour The AI filter itself isn’t new. Until now, it was only available through Control Center > Settings. For a feature you might want to switch frequently depending on your mood or situation, this was quite inconvenient. Especially new members could easily overlook this option. The toggle in the navigation bar now makes the setting visible and immediately accessible. So there’s no reason to complain about AI images anymore—if you don’t want to see them, just flip the switch. Keep Your View Flexible The new direct access doesn’t require a permanent decision. Maybe today you want to focus solely on classic photography, …

Likes vs Comments

Likes aren’t the enemy of comments. You often hear the claim: "If people can just like photos, they’ll comment less." At first, that sounds logical. A like takes a second, a comment takes time. So, the conclusion goes, people prefer to click the thumbs-up rather than write a few words. But it’s not that simple. This assumption already relies on something no one can prove: that every like would have turned into a comment if there were no like button. This leads to a long chain of flawed reasoning. A like doesn’t automatically replace a comment Someone who likes a photo wouldn’t necessarily have commented if there was no like button. Maybe they just like the photo without wanting to say anything specific. Maybe they don’t have time for a detailed comment. Maybe everything they would have said has already been written. Maybe they don’t feel confident enough to give a photographic assessment. Or maybe they simply want to express exactly what the button is for: "I like this." Without …

Listening Instead of Reading

When Reading Just Doesn’t Fit Photographers love to communicate through images. But longer texts don’t always fit into everyday life, whether you’re on the go, multitasking, or simply prefer to listen. That’s why you can now listen to selected news and articles on Photoclub. The New Audio Player Whenever an article is available as audio, our new audio player appears right alongside the content. This way, you can immediately see whether you can read or listen to the news or article. The written word remains intact: audio doesn’t replace the text but offers you an additional way to access it. Podcast Discussions on Selected Topics In addition to the narrated articles, there will be podcast discussions on selected topics. We deliberately distinguish between the audio version of the text and a deeper conversation. Especially on topics with different perspectives, such discussions can open up new ideas and viewpoints. Listen First, Then Join the Discussion Let’s be honest: …

The Death of the Photo Community

Photo communities used to be central meeting places for people who loved photography. You shared your images, discussed them, met other photographers, and often spent years together. But many of these spaces have shrunk, lost activity, or disappeared altogether. Why? There’s probably no simple answer. Maybe our needs have changed. Maybe the photo communities didn’t evolve with us. Maybe part of the problem lies with us photographers ourselves. That’s what we want to discuss. No ready-made answers, no finger-pointing, and no "things were better back then." Instead, here are 15 deliberately provocative theses and questions. Just write the number in the comments. For example: "I agree with 3, but not at all with 7." 1. Have photographers destroyed their own communities? It would be easy to blame Facebook, Instagram, smartphones, or the spirit of the times. But what if part of the problem originated within the photo communities themselves? Arguments, stubbornness, personal attacks, a…

Unlimited Snapshots

Not every photo belongs in your gallery. A before-and-after comparison, a shot of your camera setup, or a quick glimpse of the location can be incredibly useful for a conversation. Still, you might not want to showcase these types of images in your gallery. That’s exactly why we’ve introduced Snapshots: now you can upload images directly to your timeline and comments without them appearing in your gallery. No impact on your gallery limit The key benefit: Snapshots don’t count toward your upload limit. This lets you share many extra images for storytelling, explaining, and discussing without using up gallery space. Your gallery remains reserved for the photographic work you want to present deliberately, while supplementary and documentary images stay where they belong—within the relevant conversation. Gallery photos and snapshots serve different purposes Deliberate presentation vs. spontaneous sharing In your gallery, selection, visual impact, and photographic quality are front…
