By switching to a modern editor, we've laid the foundation for a much smoother experience when writing, commenting, and creating content in the Photoclub. The goal of this update is to make text editing more intuitive while providing a stable base for future enhancements. Updated Editor with the Latest Technology The previous editor has been upgraded from TinyMCE 5 to TinyMCE 7. This gives you access to a modern editor architecture that responds faster, works more reliably, and is easier to maintain in the long run. For you, this means less friction while writing and a more dependable display of your content. Greater Control Over Writing and Formatting The new editor handles formatting much more cleanly and clearly separates content from presentation. You can apply headings, paragraphs, and text structures more precisely, which is especially helpful for longer posts, news updates, or image descriptions, making everything easier to navigate. Over the past few months, we’ve spared no effort in defending our photo club against highly sophisticated cyberattacks. The hackers tried their best to overwhelm us with hacking attempts, SQL injections, massive data requests, and spam emails, but we stood firm. Thousands of files were reviewed, security gaps closed, and our platform fine-tuned down to the smallest detail. While a few challenges remain, like spam in the ticket system, the photo club is now running more smoothly than ever. The Hackers Helped Us—Unintentionally Sometimes you just have to laugh: these attacks actually motivated us to make our systems even safer and more stable. What started as a challenge gave us the opportunity to improve performance and test new security measures. Although it was months of hard work, we’re proud of the result: a lightning-fast, reliable photo club that continues to provide you with a secure platform for your photos. Standing Strong in Tough Times: How Our Photo Club Is Currently Fighting Cyberattacks. For the past four months, our beloved Photo Club has been under persistent and highly professional cyberattacks. Hackers, who clearly have access to significant computing resources such as botnets and advanced artificial intelligence, are trying to bring us down. Despite their sophisticated tactics and relentless assaults, they have not gained access to our data. The attackers primarily rely on so-called DDoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service), flooding our website with massive amounts of data requests. This causes certain functions to become unresponsive and slows down the entire site. Rest assured, your profiles and login credentials remain secure, as passwords are stored encrypted as hash values, and our premium payment pages are fully protected. The Challenges In addition to the DDoS attacks, we face several other challenges: - Massive user registrations: Despite our email confirmation links that largely control these sign-ups, there are disruptions when logging in and out. Our advice: stay logged in whenever possible. - Spam emails: Tens of thousands of spam messages flood our inbox daily, forcing our hosting provider to temporarily block incoming emails altogether. - Google Maps security vulnerability: An unknown security flaw in Google Maps was exploited by the attackers to insert data into our database. Thanks to our quick report, Google patched the vulnerability within a day. - Data injection via SQL injections into our database. To fix this, we have to review and optimize hundreds of thousands of lines of code.   Particularly worrying are the attacks on our personal computers. For example, my own machine was infected with ransomware that even reached my backups. Lieke’s private email and Facebook accounts were hacked. Mik was the only one fully prepared for such an attack and is now actively working with us to secure the entire system.   Our ticket system, which relies on third-party software, was overwhelmed by massive registrations and ticket submissions. Thousands of new tickets in Cyrillic script flood the system whenever we try to delete old ones. The Fight Against the Attackers Despite these massive challenges, we are not giving up. We have enlisted professional help and are collaborating with Cloudflare, Google, and all-inkl.com to resolve the issue once and for all. These services are highly invested in our case and are providing strong support. Our current priority is to overhaul the entire codebase and all third-party libraries. This is an enormous task, especially since working with the external libraries requires significant time to get up to speed. The Suspected Motive Experts say the scale of the attackers’ efforts “is disproportionate to the size of the project.” So, we can only speculate about their exact motives. Since the attacks likely originate from Russia, we suspect they are linked to the removal of the Russian translation of our site, which we replaced with a Ukrainian one. However, yielding to this blackmail would go against our personal ethics and the values of the Photo Club. Thanks and Looking Ahead We want to sincerely thank all of you for your understanding during this difficult time. A big thank you also for your patience, as our support ticket system is currently only partially functional. We continue to work tirelessly to fend off the attackers and protect our Photo Club. For months now, we have been revising the entire codebase and are almost there. Together, we will overcome this challenge and emerge stronger than ever. With the options to "Hide Nude & Erotic Content" and "Hide 18+ Content," you can now customize exactly what appears on your homepage. After all, in the Photoclub, the choice is yours!   No More Surprises By selecting "Hide Nude & Erotic Content," you can completely remove these categories from your homepage. Even more targeted is the "Hide 18+ Content" option, which is enabled by default. This way, you only see what you truly want—no unexpected content popping up on your homepage. The Variety Stays Intact These two new settings only affect what appears on your homepage. The full range of content remains available throughout the navigation menus, galleries, categories, and profiles. So you still have the freedom to explore everything—but on your own terms! Over the past few months, we have been working intensively on the design, structure and usability of the Photoclub software. As part of these improvements, new login methods have been introduced that may require your attention. If you now log in using a different method than usual, the system will create a new account—unless the new login method uses the same email address.   Here’s an example: If you’ve always logged in with your email and password, but now use the Facebook button to sign in, our system will check if your Facebook email matches the one on file. If they match, you’ll be logged into your existing account automatically. If the email addresses don’t match, the system will create a new account for you.   My tip: If you want to log in more conveniently in the future using one of the login providers (Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple (planned)), simply make sure your email address matches both here on Photoclub and with the login provider you choose.
