Brief Introduction

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself briefly. My name is Sabrina, and I’ve been passionate about photography since I was a kid. Sometimes I’m in front of the camera, but I enjoy being behind it just as much. I use a Sony Cybershot and would love to connect with friendly people who simply enjoy photos. It doesn’t matter if you’re a professional photographer, a hobbyist, or just someone who likes looking at pictures.

I’d be happy to hear from anyone interested in exchanging ideas.

Best, Sabrina

Too bad no one is getting in touch.

@Sabrina Westermann Yes, Sabrina, the forum is really struggling to stay active. Unfortunately, the introduction threads are no different. At least two people have welcomed you—that’s more than some others can say.
Now I’m number three.
A warm welcome to you. You’ve already made a great first impression with your photography. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work and having some lively discussions.

Best regards, Andreas

@Sabrina Westermann That's not entirely accurate either. 😉

@Sabrina Westermann Why not specify what you'd like to discuss? That might generate more engagement than the very general call for "exchange."

For example, you could share photos of yourselves that you'd like feedback on, or photos of me where you can tell me what you think. Or photos I'm unsure about posting yet, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them. Or any tips or ideas you have for future shoots. Just as a few examples.

Hi Sabrina, If you want to discuss something specific, please use the forum. Start a thread—you can even upload a recording that you want to talk about in detail. The forum may be a bit underused at the moment, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. Generally speaking, though, exchanging ideas isn’t yet a strong suit of the club. When it comes to photo presentations, it seems people are hesitant to engage in longer conversations. So, especially for photo critiques, please upload the photo again within a thread.
Best, Andreas

@Sabrina Westermann

I believe you’ve already received quality feedback with good content on the images you’ve shared so far.
For everything else, you can take the initiative yourself, just as Andreas described. Just go for it.

Yeah, you’re right about the forum. But here, everything is always visible to everyone, forever. For example, if I’m talking about ideas, does everyone really need to read that? Or if I’m discussing photos with someone, I don’t want to put them out in the marketplace for all to see, indefinitely. Maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned, but I actually prefer having conversations one-on-one.

@Sabrina Westermann That's what private messages are for.

Exactly, that’s why I’m looking for people who are interested in direct, person-to-person conversations, you know? But I’m not sure how to reach those kinds of people here, and I don’t want to come across as annoying either.

@Sabrina Westermann
Just share some regular photos of yourself as a photographer or model. You’ve already taken the first step. This gives members a glimpse of your journey both in front of and behind the camera.
We’ve also talked before about workshops.
That offer still stands. If you ever want to discuss a photo or get some feedback, feel free to send me an email.

@Sabrina Westermann It's quite simple. For direct communication, there are two (or two and a half) options: a direct email or other contact methods (phone, chat, etc.), or a truly face-to-face meeting. In my opinion, it’s always helpful to provide your general location (it doesn’t have to be down to the exact street). This way, everyone can gauge whether an in-person meeting is feasible for them. Another great option is a workshop. To avoid a workshop feeling too lonely, multiple participants can join. Dirk has offered something like this before. I could also be persuaded to organize a Rügen – Lost Places – hidden spots – tour.

Hello Sabrina,
I’d like to clarify my point a bit more.
Personal exchanges are just one part of the forum’s purpose—definitely not the primary focus. Of course, I can reach out to one or several people to discuss a recording with me. That might lead to a deeper conversation and possibly exchanging some files. But the step before that is sharing a recording of your own work. For example, today I was quite surprised by Günter’s comment that Marten’s recording felt too close to him. To me, that was extremely valuable feedback, showing how a recording can come across. I think if I had only talked to one or two people, such a comment might never have come up. That’s exactly the advantage of a forum or community—there are many different opinions and perspectives that hopefully get expressed.

If you want direct contact, say for a project, introduce the project in the forum—perhaps with a hook in the image presentation. Those interested in participating will get in touch. That way, no one has to be bothered.
There are already way too many people annoyed here anyway.

Yes @Dirk @Leo @Andreas

Thank you all for your helpful responses. But what else can I do? I already mentioned that I’d love to discuss the following:

Photos of me as a photographer Photos of me as a model
Possible posing/outfit ideas for photos of me as a model
Editing/cropping/anything related to the photos
General discussions about photoshoots Exchanging your ideas Sharing your photos

If anyone is interested in chatting about any of the above topics, please feel free to send me a private message here.
