User Meeting

Considerations
Hello photography enthusiasts.
Organizing a forum meetup for all of Germany might be quite challenging, but perhaps it could work on a smaller scale.
From my perspective, Central Germany (the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia) would be a good region to focus on.
We’d just need to agree on a location, and everything else can be arranged later.
Are there any members from Central Germany or neighboring states who would be interested?

Unfortunately, I'm a Northerner from the Rostock area.

I would be very interested in participating. I live in Tanne, Saxony-Anhalt.

Great, that makes two of us.
Maybe a few more will join— I find it hard to believe there are only two members from Central Germany in this photo club.

I'm not so sure, but I don't think there will be many of us. 😉 Cheers, Eva

Let's wait and see—hope is the last thing to die.
Just wait for 5 more users to join; surely not all of them are single. If they bring their partners, we'd be up to 12.
Back in 2010, as an active athlete, I attended a forum meetup twice, each time involving a 3-hour drive and 2 overnight stays. With partners included, we were always over 10 people, and I never regretted it.
Cheers, Klaus

@Klaus Berbig Well, dear Klaus, hope is the last thing to die, you're right about that, I just don't believe in it... Sorry! If things turn out differently, I'll gladly admit I was wrong! 😉 Best regards, Eva

I'm generally open to such meetups, but Central Germany is hardly feasible for me. I live in the tri-border area of Germany, France, and Switzerland. I've also met up with members from the "other" platform—people from all three of those countries.

Hobbyfotograf

Yes, that's true, you'd be on the road almost all day. That obviously doesn't make much sense.
But it's great to hear that you've already had meetups in your tri-border area.

Sounds good, I’m from Dresden.

Hobbyfotograf

Well, there we go—we’re already three.
With life partners or significant others, that makes five of us (I recently became a widower).

Come on, folks from Central Germany, let’s get together. We can look forward to interesting conversations and great photo opportunities.

You could also come here:
http://www.d-r-f.de/augenblicke/
At least two users from here will be there anyway.
There is a complete infrastructure available, including accommodation and catering.
Day visitors are, of course, also welcome.

Depending on the timing, I might be interested as well. Although I'm also from the south, I have a few old friends scattered around central Germany that I've been meaning to visit. That could definitely be combined, especially since I'll have plenty of free time starting next year.

I'd like to add another interested person to the group from Central Germany. I'm from Thuringia (near Ilmenau) and would love to expand the circle.

Hobbyfotograf

@ Jochen Petry Thanks for the tip, I saved it right away.
But for users from northern central Germany, that might be questionable.
@ Korbinian Ring Great, that makes four of us already.
If a meetup does happen, if at all, it would probably be next year anyway.

@ Leo Rothner It's getting better and better, that makes five of us already.

@Klaus Berbig It’s possible for anyone. For decades, we’ve had regulars not just from all over Germany, but also from the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the USA. Seriously. This year, though, I’ll only have about a 600 km trip.
Newcomers are always very welcome!

Hobbyfotograf

A 600 km trip—that really blows me away. Respect.
I couldn’t manage more than 300 km myself.
But let’s see what the other users think about this suggestion.

Hobbyfotograf

Just a little thought experiment.
Eva from Tanne, Leo from Ilmenau, Wolfram from Leipzig, and Klaus from Naumburg — Leipzig would probably be the most convenient meeting point. I don’t know where Andreas and Korinan live, though. Maybe someone else will join as well.
A meeting probably wouldn’t be feasible in winter anyway.

Profifotograf

For me, it’s Munich. Leipzig would definitely be doable once the trains are running normally again. I don’t think anything before February is realistic anyway, as my schedule is packed until then, but after that, I’ll have plenty of time.

Hobbyfotograf

Great, that makes six of us already.
Eva, Wolfram, Andreas, Korbinan, Leo, and me. Now I'm feeling optimistic that a few more people will join us.

Hi Klaus, click on "Photographers" at the top, then select "Map." This map shows all the members and exactly where they live. It might be more effective to reach out to members personally.
Best, Manni

Hello Manfred.
Thanks for the heads-up, I'll take care of it right away.

I'm going to take a bit of a risk here and hope no one feels offended or bothered.
So, when I click on the "Members and Map" button, I see that at least 8 users live in the Leipzig area. The distance is well under 100 km according to the "Falk Route Planner."
This is just about a possible meetup in Leipzig, but no dates have been proposed yet.
There’s only a tentative yes from Andreas, Dietmar, Eva, Klaus, Korbinian, Leo, and Wolfram.
Would you attend such a meetup if there were 8 users from the Leipzig area?

How can you edit your own posts in the forum (text, spacing, etc.)?

I’m from the beautiful Münsterland region near the Dutch border. I’m definitely interested in a meetup like this! I’ll keep following your plans here, and if the timing works out, I’d be happy to join in—if only to get to know you all. If things get urgent and you don’t hear from me, don’t hesitate to reach out to me here personally.
Best, Bernd

Oh, I think that's generally a great idea. However, I'm based near Vienna, so it's quite a distance away. But if the date and location are announced well in advance—and if I happen to be traveling in Germany at that time—I could definitely consider it. If it's a business trip, though, only the weekend would work for me. I’m also often up north around Hamburg, and on the way to Hamburg by car, Leipzig isn’t too far off my route (I usually drive via Passau-Hof, etc.). I’d just need to know well in advance to plan accordingly.

Hobbyfotograf

Hi Gabi.
I’m not the one calling the shots here, I’m just suggesting we get together, but you’re the one who set the date.
May seems like a good choice, especially with everyone’s individual vacation plans.
Also, it would be helpful if someone from the Leipzig area could take the lead—like choosing the meeting spot and sharing nearby accommodation options.
I’m planning to arrive on Friday and head back on Monday.
Best, Klaus

@Klaus Berbig May is "relatively okay"—except for the last third of the month. Before that, I'm completely booked. But as I said, I can't say for sure if I'll be able to make it until I know the exact dates. It also depends a bit on whether I get a business trip during that time—since I'm retired and only working freelance for my company, if I were a full-time employee, I could manage my schedule better. In August/September, I'll definitely be in Hamburg and the North for personal reasons. Best, Gabi
