Die Witwe Königen Mathilde ließ vom Sohn Heinrichs I. und somit Thronnachfolger Otto I. die Gründung eines Frauenstifts bestätigen. Sie gehörte 30 Jahre lang zum Vorstand dieses Frauenstifts auf dem Quedlinburger Schlossberg. Dabei war sie nie Äbtissin gewesen.
