The steam locomotive 01 1063 carries the unfortunate distinction of having pulled the last passenger train with a steam locomotive in scheduled service on a West German route, that is, on behalf of the then Deutsche Bundesbahn. This was the express train E3265 from Rheine to Emden. By the time of this last scheduled run, 01 1063 had already covered an impressive four million route kilometers.
Like all steam locomotives of the late seventies, 01 1063 was assigned to the Braunschweig depot, as it was the last of its kind. It was eventually retired there and was somewhat like the last to turn off the lights for the Braunschweig depot. 01 1063 was the last overhaul to be carried out at the Braunschweig depot. After that, the steam locomotive repair shop became obsolete.
Today, 01 1063 still stands as a reminder of the steam locomotive era in Braunschweig, however, on a monument pedestal in front of the station. There it was a...Historic Railway in Germany

Die Dampflok 01 1063 trägt das unrühmliche Schicksal den letzten mit Dampflok bespannten Personenzug im Planverkehr auf bundesdeutscher Strecke, also im Auftrag der damaligen Deutschen Bundesbahn gezogen zu haben. Es handelte sich hierbei um den Eilzug E3265 von Rheine nach Emden. Bis zu diesem letzten Planeinsatz hat 01 1063 schon stolze vier Millionen Streckenkilometer hinter sich gebracht.
Wie alle Dampfloks der späten Siebziger Jahre wurde auch 01 1063 dem Bw Braunschweig zugeführt, da es das letzte seiner Art gewesen ist. Hier wurde sie schließlich auch ausgemustert und war auch für das Bw Braunschweig so etwas wie der letzte, der das Licht ausknipst. 01 1063 war die letzte Aufarbeitung, die im Bw Braunschweig durchgeführt werden sollte. Danach wurde das Dampflokausbesserungswerk obsolet.
Heute steht 01 1063 als Erinnerung an den Dampflokzeit noch immer in Braunschweig, allerdings auf dem Denkmalsockel vor dem Bahnhof. Dort wurde sie a
