"Our daily bread give us today."

It was a beautiful summer day last year. This cornfield is at the foot of the Odenwald near Schriesheim on the Bergstraße. The fields are planted with different crops. In the flat area, there is grain, rapeseed, fruit trees, and other crops. Red and white wine are grown in front of the mountain slopes.

The fields are divided into small units. But the farmers have managed, through long experience and tools, to make a lot out of little. This has allowed harvest yields to be optimized. Often, multiple harvests are possible, which was not the case before. However, growth conditions change from time to time due to weather, and climate change in particular poses new challenges.

Grain is definitely a very important plant for us humans.
