The "Neue Kirche" WolkenburgThe "Neue Kirche" WolkenburgDie „Neue Kirche“ Wolkenburg
The "Neue Kirche" in Wolkenburg greets visitors coming from the B175 from afar, standing prominently on the rock plateau below the castle. The church is considered one of the most beautiful village churches in Saxony and is certainly the purest classical village church in our country. This architectural gem owes its existence to the then church patron and lord of Wolkenburg Castle, the Saxon Conference Minister Detlev Carl Graf von Einsiedel. Due to the dilapidation of the old church, he had this church built in the ancient Greek temple style by the Dresden court architect Giesel between 1794 and 1804.
The design is based on the form of the Greek basilica. Through the porch (the atrium), one enters the nave, which is separated from the transept by rows of Doric columns and ends in the domed apse. The "Neue Kirche" in Wolkenburg greets visitors coming from the B175 from afar, standing prominently on the rock plateau below the castle.
