The Agnus Dei Chapel was founded at the end of the 19th century by Franciscan nuns who had fled due to the Prussian Kulturkampf and were granted a small piece of land by a sympathetic count, on which they established a new convent.
They built a small chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony and opened a small dormitory for elderly people in need of care. This was intended to secure economic survival.
Over time, the dormitory developed into a retirement home for up to 40 people. Increasing demands in the care sector, as well as the remoteness of the facility, led to its closure after more than 100 years. According to research, this must have been around 2005. Shortly after the closure, there was a fire that investigations determined was deliberately set. This resulted in years of legal disputes between the insurance companies, and the buildings were left to decay. The Agnus Dei Chapel was founded at the end of the 19th century by Franciscan nuns who had fled due to the Prussian Kulturkampf and were granted a small piece of land by a sympathetic count, on which they established a new convent.
