The "Skyscraper"The "Skyscraper"Der „Wolkenkratzer“
...or the correct name: "The Spire" (The Point) I saw unexpectedly in August 2017 on a shopping street in Dublin, Ireland. A very surreal sight. Surrounded by shops, residential buildings, and many people walking and shopping. From the bottom at the base, the end is hardly visible, as it gets narrower towards the top. This gives the impression that the spire reaches into the clouds. But why is this metal column here and what does it signify?
The Spire is a monument and landmark of Dublin, the capital of Ireland. The Spire is officially called the Monument of Light and in Irish An Túr Solais ("Tower of Light"). The 120-meter (394-foot) high stainless steel needle has stood since 2003 in the middle of O’Connell Street and is illuminated at night.
