Behind the Scenes

Why not give us a peek behind the scenes at your place?
Special setups, your photo corner at home, the photo basement, or maybe even a real darkroom? Whether it’s (home) studios or small temporary setups, just show us what goes on behind the scenes at your place. Simply upload photos (max. 3MB) here in the post and add a few lines of explanation. Looking forward to seeing! 🙂

I just saw this now, and I tidied up again last week, so I guess I'll bring it back up again 😉

Great topic! 🙂
Since I don’t have a studio setup, my home workspace is pretty simple—just my laptop with editing software on it, and my external hard drive sitting next to it, that’s about it. When you’re into nature and wildlife photography, the setups out in the field or behind the scenes tend to be way more interesting.

This was just recently on Helgoland—I had a kestrel in my sights with an 800mm lens plus a 2x extender, so I definitely needed a steady hand 😉
I didn’t need any camouflage there, which was a relief because that would’ve blown my luggage allowance (and it was already tight with two extra bags).

Or like this:

Before heading to Helgoland—with its saltwater, sand, and strong winds (we even had sandstorms on the beach up to half a meter high)—I bought some nice leg covers for my tripod. They were a bit tricky to put on since they were a little long even with the tripod legs fully extended, and here only about two-thirds of the legs were outside the covers. Still, it was a very worthwhile investment.

Just sharing a couple of shots—I always like taking behind-the-scenes photos, and for me, the outdoor ones are just more interesting 🙂
That said, I’ll make a note to snap a picture of my camera bag setup to share here sometime.

A look into the area I use as a darkroom.

[There would be a photograph here, but unfortunately uploading it doesn’t seem to be possible]

So here’s my darkroom—not with Durst, Jobo, and Paterson equipment, but with Adobe, a BenQ SW270C graphics monitor, a MacBook Air M1, and in the background, my “enlarger,” a Canon Pro-100 A3+ printer.

@Andreas Bibas
This is the large open-plan studio. Behind the cove lighting is a still-life studio and the lab area. Next to that are some office spaces. The total production area is 600 sqm, with 11-meter-high ceilings in the main studio and 4 meters in the still-life studio. There are 21 Profoto generators at 2400ws each, plus a 10-meter light trough for automotive photography.
Currently, everything is unused. We moved on to Rene and haven’t found anyone to take over the studio. No one dares to take it on, probably because of its size.

As the saying goes, if I were younger...
It’s definitely tempting.
It’s a shame—sometimes it just takes a bit of luck to find the right person for it.
Especially for product photos—perfect.
