Dust bath in backlight
A dark bird with a bright red face and white feather ears throws itself into the sand. The deep side light makes every stirred-up grain visible and bathes the scene in warm gold. Taken with the 500-mm telephoto lens from Wolfurt, the background remains soft while the eye is sharp. The short exposur…A dark bird with a bright red face and white feather ears throws itself into the sand. The deep side light makes every stirred-up grain visible and bathes the scene in warm gold. Taken with the 500-mm telephoto lens from Wolfurt, the background remains soft while the eye is sharp. The short exposure time freezes the movement, and the sand is flung in fine veils from the feathers. The dust bath serves for feather care and helps against parasites. Here it becomes a small natural spectacle between strength and lightness. more Less

📍 Taken at Lünersee on the way to Schesaplana – in fantastic weather up to the summit cross. Blue sky, sunshine and this incredible turquoise tone of the reservoir, framed by rugged limestone rocks. One of those days when the mountains just do everything right.
