Scottish Highland Cattle.
As a child, I only ever saw the black-and-white spotted cows with short fur and the accompanying bulls in our pastures. In Bavaria, they wore a bell around their neck that jingled with every movement. All had horns on their heads. In winter, the animals were in the barn, and from spring onwards, back on the pasture, also with the newborn calves. At least, that’s how I remember it from back then.
At some point, I started seeing more and more “exotic” looking specimens in the meadows. Had the young farmers here discovered a new hobby? My first impression was that it was a beauty contest among the owners. I kept seeing new breeds that looked different, which reinforced this suspicion.
But what was the reason for this change in the pastures? The explanation can be read further below...Scottish Highland Cattle.
