The Little Owl (Athene noctua) is a small, short-tailed owl species from the family of True Owls (Strigidae). The distribution area of the Little Owl extends over Eurasia and North Africa. It is a characteristic inhabitant of the tree steppe with sparse or low vegetation and prefers to hunt on the ground. A once chosen territory is usually occupied by it for several years and sometimes even for a lifetime.

Der Steinkauz (Athene noctua) ist eine kleine, kurzschwänzige Eulenart aus der Familie der Eigentlichen Eulen (Strigidae). Das Verbreitungsgebiet des Steinkauzes erstreckt sich über Eurasien und Nordafrika. Er ist ein charakteristischer Bewohner der Baumsteppe mit spärlicher oder niedriger Vegetation und jagt bevorzugt auf dem Boden. Ein einmal gewähltes Revier besetzt er meist über mehrere Jahre und zum Teil sogar lebenslang.
