Summer Evening at Steinhuder Meer (I'm Coming Home)
On a fantastic summer evening after sunset at Steinhuder Meer in Steinhude, on the so-called "Promenade"; looking northwest / north toward the island of Wilhelmstein. The pastel-like hues and reflections were not "added" / rendered in post-processing; they occur naturally on just a few summer eveni…On a fantastic summer evening after sunset at Steinhuder Meer in Steinhude, on the so-called "Promenade"; looking northwest / north toward the island of Wilhelmstein. The pastel-like hues and reflections were not "added" / rendered in post-processing; they occur naturally on just a few summer evenings each year after sunset, or when there is practically no wind (the smooth water surface of the shallow lake). Essentially, only the tonal values were raised in Photoshop and a few barrels were clone-stamped away, to further enhance the minimalist impression. The promenade has since been named "Paul-Smalian-Weg"—after a Steinhude landscape painter who notably captured such moods of light pictorially in the 1950s, and whose works, like those of Caspar David Friedrich, I have admired ever since I first saw them. more Less

An einem fantastischen Sommerabend nach Sonnenuntergang am Steinhuder Meer in Steinhude an der sog. "Promenade"; mit Blick nach NW / N zur Insel Wilhelmstein. Die pastellartigen Farbtöne und Spiegelungen sind nicht etwa im PP "dazugefügt" / gerendert; - sie entstehen an wenigen Sommerabenden im Jah…An einem fantastischen Sommerabend nach Sonnenuntergang am Steinhuder Meer in Steinhude an der sog. "Promenade"; mit Blick nach NW / N zur Insel Wilhelmstein. Die pastellartigen Farbtöne und Spiegelungen sind nicht etwa im PP "dazugefügt" / gerendert; - sie entstehen an wenigen Sommerabenden im Jahr nach Sonnenuntergang bzw. bei praktisch Windstille (glatte Wasseroberfläche des Flachwassersees) von selbst. Es wurden im Wesentlichen nur Tonwerte in PS angehoben und einige Tonnen weggestempelt, um die minimalistische Anmutung noch zu verstärken. Die Promenade wurde mittlerweile als "Paul-Smalian-Weg" benannt - nach einem Steinhuder Landschafts-Maler, der insbesondere in den 50ern des letzten Jahrhunderts solche Lichtstimmungen malerisch festhielt, und dessen Werke ich, wie auch die von Caspar David Friedrich, bewundere, seit ich sie zuerst sah. more Less
