Fort Pannerden
Fort Pannerden was built from 1869 to 1872 at the fork of the Pannerden Canal (Dutch: Pannerdensch Kanaal) and the Waal River, as one of the largest forts in the Netherlands. It was intended to serve as a barrier against invading troops advancing via the Rhine and Waal towards Fortress Holland, behind the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Additionally, it was meant to prevent the Pannerden Canal from being dammed, which would have deprived the waterline of sufficient water.

Fort Pannerden
Das Fort Pannerden wurde von 1869 bis 1872 in der Gabelung von Pannerdens-Kanal (Niederländisch: Pannerdensch Kanaal) und Waal, als eines der größten Forts der Niederlande, erbaut. Es sollte als Sperrwerk gegen einfallende Truppen dienen, die über Rhein und Waal zur Festung Holland, hinter der Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, vorstoßen wollten. Außerdem sollte verhindert werden, dass der Pannerdens-Kanal abgedämmt werden konnte und die Wasserlinie somit ohne genügend Wasser wäre.
