Kniebrücke Düsseldorf
Rheinkniebrücke, named because it spans the so-called "Rheinknie," a bend in the Rhine that resembles this body part in shape. Together with the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke to the north and the Oberkasseler Brücke, the structure, colloquially called "Kniebrücke" by the people of Düsseldorf, is part of the so-called "Düsseldorfer Brückenfamilie." The intellectual father of this group was Professor Friedrich Tamms, the longtime head of the city planning office.

Rheinkniebrücke, die so heißt, weil sie das sogenannte “Rheinknie” überbrückt, eine Rheinschlinge, die der Form nach diesem Körperteil ähnelt. Zusammen mit der Theodor-Heuss-Brücke im Norden und der Oberkasseler Brücke zählt das von den Düsseldorfern knapp “Kniebrücke” genannte Bauwerk zur sogenannten “Düsseldorfer Brückenfamilie“. Deren geistiger Vater war der langjährige Leiter des Stadtplanungsamtes Professor Friedrich Tamms.
