If you visit daily, you might only notice a slight boost here and there. But overall, load times have dropped significantly. Pages open faster, photos load more smoothly, and even with slower internet connections, the Photoclub now feels noticeably more enjoyable to use. That saves time, stress, and sometimes even a second cup of coffee while waiting.   Less Waiting, More Photography When it comes to viewing photos, first impressions matter. No one wants to stare at spinning loading icons between shots like they’re watching a gloomy weather forecast. Thanks to these technical improvements, you can discover images faster, write comments more comfortably, and browse galleries with ease. Members with slower connections benefit especially. A great photo rarely happens by chance—and neither does a strong photo club. At Photoclub, we’re continuously evolving our photography platform step by step, so you don’t just upload your photos, but make them truly visible, receive honest feedback, and find fresh inspiration. To keep advancing in technology, security, presentation, and growth, the Premium membership fee will increase from €38 to €79 per year starting in April. The good news: if you upgrade to Premium now, you lock in the €38 rate permanently. In other words: better to press the shutter today than face a higher price tomorrow.   Why €38 no longer fits the picture The new price might feel like a strong exposure adjustment at first. But looking at it realistically, it’s simply necessary: currently, acquiring 100 new visitors costs us about €40 in advertising. On average, this results in 10 new members and 1 Premium member. At the old price, that brings in around €35—less than what’s needed just to sustain growth. With the new €79 rate, revenue rises to about €70, finally creating room for Photoclub to grow into a truly large platform. Those who become Premium members now keep the €38 rate forever, securing not only the old price but also supporting greater reach, more new members, and thus more attention for their own photos.   More than just a click behind every upload Photoclub isn’t just about beautiful photos and an upload button. Behind the scenes, there’s ongoing development, system operations, accounting, servers, security, licenses, payment processing, legal protection, as well as support and moderation. Monthly costs currently run around €10,600, which adds up to about €127,200 annually—conservatively estimated. This isn’t a luxury; it’s the foundation for what you experience daily: a modern, stable, and user-friendly platform where your images reliably stay visible. In comparison, a yearly membership at €38 covers only a fraction of this. To cover the basics alone, we’d need roughly 3,348 Premium members. At €79, that number drops to about 1,610—and that doesn’t even include advertising costs to attract new members.   What’s in it for you beyond a good feeling For you, this means more visibility for your photos, more feedback, fresh perspectives, and a photographic community that continues to evolve based on your needs. Since the takeover, many technical improvements have been made—faster, clearer, more stable. Today, Photoclub is the most advanced photography community on the market. But it shouldn’t interrupt you when you’re focused on viewing photos or calmly browsing through the Photoclub. That’s why the sound is intentionally subtle—no annoying beeps or intrusive alarms, just a gentle little ping to let you know there’s something new for you. Why we added the sound now Many of us know the feeling: you upload a photo, read comments, or are deep in thought about your next crop—and a notification can easily go unnoticed. The new sound helps you catch these alerts more reliably without disturbing your peace. This way, Photoclub remains a relaxed place where you enjoy spending time and never miss anything important. Photography requires focus, not distractions Of course, it’s all about what feels right for you. If you prefer to work in complete silence, you can easily turn off the sound anytime. After all, photography thrives on focus—not distractions. The easiest way to mute sounds temporarily is directly in your browser tab: right-click the tab → “Mute site.” Alternatively, you can mute the site permanently in your browser’s site settings. The member map is back—faster, smarter, more attractive, and much easier to use. It’s been revamped not only technically but also visually and functionally to perfectly match the Photoclub style. Fresh Design in Photoclub Style The bright blue-and-white look is a thing of the past. The member map now features a calm, harmonious Photoclub design that blends seamlessly with the platform’s overall aesthetic. Avatars Instead of Anonymous Markers Instead of traditional markers, members’ avatars are now displayed directly on the map. This way, you can instantly see who is where—making it more personal and easier to navigate. Interact Directly on the Map Clicking on an avatar or hovering over a name opens the member’s new mini-profile. You can send friend requests, follow, ignore, or message them right from there—no need to visit their full profile. Better Overview with Many Members When many members are in the same location, they’re smartly grouped together. Zooming in automatically breaks these groups apart, keeping the map clear and easy to understand at all times. Optimized for Mobile Devices The member map has been fully optimized for smartphones and tablets. All features are now conveniently accessible on mobile devices without any limitations.

Some of you have pointed out that comments have recently been a bit hard to read. Paragraph breaks, blank lines, and extra spacing were removed, making everything appear as one continuous block of text on a single line. Many found this restrictive—and I completely understand why. The original reason for this was to protect against so-called whitespace spamming. This refers to content that is intentionally or unintentionally filled with excessive blank lines, spaces, line breaks, or gaps. Such formatting can artificially lengthen comments, push other content out of view, and disrupt the overall clarity. In some cases, it even affects the readability of entire pages. In short: too much empty space can do more harm than good. At the same time, it’s important to us that you can organize your thoughts clearly. Good comments thrive on clarity, not on cramped text. That’s why we’ve made improvements here as well. From now on, you can once again structure your comments into meaningful paragraphs. Modern, finely tuned algorithms now detect double or excessive line breaks and automatically reduce them to a healthy amount. Multiple consecutive spaces are also recognized and trimmed down to a single space. We’ve also taken typical cases on mobile devices into account. For example, if someone starts a new line after nearly every third word—often unintentionally, simply because the small screen tricks the eye—this will be detected and gently corrected. The text remains readable without anyone being penalized. Long comments will initially be shown in a shortened form to avoid overwhelming the overall view. The maximum number of comments and replies displayed initially has also been limited. This means, for example, that a very long comment or many comments on a single photo won’t push the next image out of the visible screen area on the homepage. Additionally, there are other background mechanisms now reliably preventing whitespace spamming. All of this with one clear goal: to give you more freedom to structure your comments in a clear and pleasant way. Thank you for your feedback and your patience. Rethinking folders – more freedom, less hassle. From now on, folders in the Photoclub are exactly what they should be: a simple organizational tool for your profile. No technical detours, no mandatory fields, no restrictions. The entire folder system has been revamped to give you greater control over how your photos are displayed, while making the system behind the scenes much smarter. Folders are just for organization You can now organize your photos into as many custom folders as you like within your profile. Folders no longer affect categories or visibility; they simply help you create order, structure, and thematic connections within your profile. Dedicated folder tab in your profile There’s now a separate "Folders" tab in your profile. This clearly displays a member’s photo folders, keeping them distinct from the rest of the profile content. Visitors can immediately see how your portfolio is organized. Categories assigned automatically per photo When creating a folder, you no longer need to assign a public category for the photos inside to appear in the gallery. Instead, categories are automatically assigned to each photo. This means all your photos now automatically appear in the public categories without any extra effort on your part. 16+ and 18+ content Explicit content already in your profile folders will now be hidden there as well. Newly uploaded 16+ photos will automatically be published in the 16+ galleries. The system handles categorization and initial hiding of sensitive images automatically. It is no longer possible to bypass the 16+ or 18+ galleries by uploading or moving photos into profile folders. No more tags needed Tags are no longer required when creating folders. Content is found through folder and photo titles and descriptions, improving discoverability while reducing maintenance effort. Sorting and custom display Within a folder, you can now sort your photos by various criteria and freely arrange them using drag & drop. This lets you decide the order your photos appear in the folder and which image is shown as the folder cover in the overview. For example, you can upload a special cover graphic for your photo folder and use it as the folder cover. Current status and outlook At the moment, moving photos into, out of, or between folders after the fact is not yet possible. This feature is planned and will be added in a future update. However, even then, it won’t be possible to move 16+ photos into publicly accessible folders. Many thanks to all Premium members who make these structural improvements possible. Tag features are being phased out gradually. Tags are no longer required for daily topics, photo uploads, or folder creation. This isn’t a step backward, but a deliberate move toward a more natural way of handling content. Why we’re making this change Dropping tags is a conscious evolution. Tags used to be necessary because the software couldn’t truly understand content. Today’s advanced systems can interpret content in natural language and categorize it accordingly. This makes artificial constructs like tags unnecessary. Tags were a technical workaround Tags originated at a time when images and text couldn’t be analyzed. Single keywords were meant to provide a summary description. In practice, this often led to frustration: inconsistent spellings, synonyms, ambiguities, or unclear terms meant relevant photos weren’t found despite tagging, creating a chaotic experience. Additionally, irrelevant tags could distort the context of content, leading to irrelevant search results and user frustration. Titles and descriptions tell a better story The image itself, along with a meaningful title and a brief description, provide context, mood, and the true content of a photo. Modern search and filtering systems analyze images and full texts, recognize connections, and understand content far more reliably than a loose collection of keywords. Contextually linked information conveys more—and more accurate—details than isolated keywords ever could. Less effort, more benefit Tagging took time and added extra work during uploads. Eliminating tags means faster uploads, better discoverability through AI-driven analysis, and no reliance on random or incomplete inputs. This frees you up to focus on what really matters: photography. How people actually think People think and speak in sentences, not keyword lists. That’s exactly how Photoclub is designed. You describe your photo just as you would tell another photographer—naturally. The system handles the technical analysis behind the scenes. Putting the focus back on the images Without technical busywork, your photography takes center stage again. Show your images, view others’, and engage in discussions—without endless forms and extra fields. Dropping tags is part of a long-term vision to capture content intuitively and make it reliably discoverable. Sometimes, less really is more.

What you see is often just the tip of the iceberg. For an entire year, the Photoclub team worked intensively on a complete software rebuild. Quietly, focused, and forward-looking. The result: a modern, stable foundation that ensures the Photoclub’s long-term viability and creates space for all the visible improvements you can now explore.   A Foundation That Supports The entire system was redeveloped from the ground up. Modern technologies and up-to-date frameworks have replaced outdated structures. For the Photoclub, this means stability, security, and future-readiness. Just like in great photography, it’s the foundation that counts—not quick effects.   Lots of Work, Little Noise Most of this work isn’t immediately visible to you. Old and new system components were incompatible, so everything had to be rebuilt from scratch. Changes couldn’t just happen “on the side.” The many new features you see today are the result of this long, quiet groundwork.   Ready for What’s Next With this new technical foundation, further developments can now be implemented cleanly, faster, and more sustainably. The use of emojis has been deliberately expanded in the Photoclub to make posts more lively, clear, and expressive. Full Icon Set Instead of Limited Emoji Selection Instead of a small, restricted emoji list, the editor now offers the complete Unicode Consortium icon set. All symbols can be easily selected through a dedicated menu and inserted directly into texts without needing to know the codes. Enhanced Editor Integration The icons are fully integrated into the editor and quickly accessible. This allows comments, descriptions, and news to be structured purposefully, highlighted, and communicated more clearly. Status in Plain Text Fields Currently, the icon menu is not yet available in plain text fields—but this feature is planned. Until then, icons can still be used there as usual by entering the codes.

Whether you’re browsing on your small phone while out and about or enjoying photos leisurely on your large monitor—the Photoclub automatically adapts to your viewing experience.   Just as comfortable on the go On your phone, the Photoclub now feels noticeably smoother and more intuitive. Controls are where you expect them, images appear tidy, and text remains easy to read. Perfect for quick visits, commenting from the couch, or quickly discovering new photos.   Big images need room to breathe We’ve also fine-tuned the experience on large screens. Up to 3K resolution, the Photoclub is now perfectly optimized to make smart use of the available space. Thumbnails are larger and have plenty of breathing room, galleries feel calmer, and details can be appreciated even without zooming in. This is exactly what you want when you’re not just looking at photos but truly taking them in.   And there’s more to come Optimization for 4K screens is already underway. The Photoclub evolves technically—step by step, always with real-world use in mind. Small or large: the goal remains the same.
