Grey Heron - Ardea cinerea
The grey heron, with its strikingly long legs, belongs to the order of wading birds. This bird, now widespread again, is also known as the "fish heron" due to its lifestyle by the water and its diet. In the 1950s and 60s, the fish heron was on the brink of extinction. The main reason for its heavy hunting was declining fish stocks. Other reasons for the decline of the grey heron included water pollution, river straightening, and the elimination of wetlands. All of this contributed to a decrease in the heron's prey and consequently to the disappearance of the heron itself.Grey Heron - Ardea cinerea
