Leopard tortoise by the roadside
The shell of the leopard tortoise closely resembles the fur of the leopard: golden with black rosette-like spots. But unlike the leopard, which as the longest-living big cat can reach up to 20 years of age, the small namesake can, with a lot of luck, even reach 100 years. Leopard tortoises inhabit large parts of southern and eastern Africa, where they especially thrive in the hot and dry savanna landscape.

Leoparden-Schildkröte am Wegesrand
Der Panzer der Leopardenschildkröte ist dem Fell des Leoparden sehr ähnlich: golden mit schwarzen rosettenartigen Flecken. Aber im Gegensatz zum Leoparden, der als längst lebende Raubkatze bis zu 20 Jahre alt werden kann, erreicht der kleine Namensverwandte mit viel Glück sogar den 100. Geburtstag. Leopardenschildkröten besiedeln weite Teile vom südlichen und östlichen Afrika, wobei sie sich vor allem in der heißen und trockenen Savannenlandschaft wohl fühlen.
